Summer Exhibition

Treasures of Akaroa exhibition

Akaroa Museum’s summer exhibition reflects on the museum’s collecting over the last 10 years.
The title refers to both the things that are collected, the taonga, and the stories, information and discussion that is collected with the taonga - the kōrero.
See restored 19th century paintings, medals and certificates, the Akaroa Junior School dental chair, a World War Two sea mine, and much more.
More than 50 taonga are on display, many for the very first time since the Museum collected them, along with 80 digitised photographs.
Ngā Taonga me ōna Kōrero: A Decade of Collecting shows how purposeful collecting over decades creates meaning and resonance through material culture.
Under the Red traffic light alert level, anyone aged 12 and older entering Akaroa Museum will require a vaccine pass. Please sign/scan in and wear a mask.
